half an hour in little india - a short stop-over between errands....

...i got off my car on a short stop-over in little india to grab some stuff for my family. here are some photos that
i manage to capture in that short visit there.....well....just some snapshots....hopefully you like it.......

the short stop over in little india started along dunlop street where i parked my car.....many shops are preparing for the usual Sunday indian foreign workers day out crowd....well ..i was early....very early....roads still clear...traffic is still low....even cyclist ride on the streets on the wrong direction!!!!.

hitting the main road along buffalo road......

...the time on my wrist watch says 9.00am....that explains the empty roads here in little india which was supposed to be crowded to its roads on a typical sunday as the foreign workers take their day-off and spend thier day here in little india.  you can see many street side make-shift stalls selling vegetables like tomatos as you can see here.....all unboxed and heaped up ready for the noon crowd..

heading down towards komala villas......

...to let you have a feel of the quality of the tomatos they offer right here in little indian.....here is what you would get at $1.80 to $2.30 a kilo.....smooth silky pimple free choices....

passing by one of the textile shops......

...i walked pass one of the textile outlets as i walk through the shophouse. just like those old shops along arab street in the early 70's the smell of new-cloth in bundle and rolls pulled my attention. Stopping righ in front of Hannifa's textile, i briskly made an entry to the shop that is full of colorful new textiles and sarees.

...smell of colorful fabrics in rolls and bundles...

...okay...i look like a tourist, with a camera and all.....i spoke to one of the sales person in the store and asked permission to take some photos in the store.  I explained to them that i am doing a short story on little india....haha!!......he said Yes!! ...permission granted.

....one of the nice salesman in the store...

...early morning in a typical textile shop would be tightening of opened rolls of cloths from the day before's business.  the activites seems routine and i guess...its not that an interesting to do from his facial expression....well, he did give me a smile when asked for his permission prior to this shot of him....."fierce look ....ma!!"

....encounter with one of the resident beggers of little india....

...known to many photographers...a resident of little india....an old indian lady beggar. many times i observe. passer-by like me including tourist take steal shots of her. some get too close to her and get noticed - where she would squeal aloud and show you a sequence of hand gestures while saying "...foto!! five doll-lars!...hah...you've guessed it...she demands some modelling charges. well, i did gave her some loose change and oh man!!! she really meant her words...she did not mind me taking more photos of her....

...how about a portrait madam...

...here is the portrait of the nice old lady herself. well, i gave her a small token in return for her letting me taking some photos....surprisingly, she took my palm and did a palm reading on my had and showed...a gesture trying to ask me..."you have two kids?"....haha i just returned her a smile...

..she seem to be no stranger for passer by here in the Komala Villas side of little india. Surprisingly, i found that the indians here are really-really generous.....8/10 passer by actually gave her something......wow!!!

...curious kid with his dad at a fruit store....

...i came across a cute little indian boy at the fruit stall right at  the corner of buffalo road. his dad was busy choosing fruits and bargaining and this little boy was curiously peeling the labels off from a box of mango. i gave him a sneaky smile and took this "lost of words" shot. well...he must have been wondering why am I'm down to the floor - paying respect to him ? .....i was actually using an angle finder..

...aha!!! mangoes...indian mangoes they are really aromatic....

...mangoes from india...thats what i was told. the colors and texture of these mangoes may not be that eye catching but ....if only my camera could pump in a sample of the aroma...i would have done so...

.......i got what i was there for from one fo the shops next to komala villas....and then head back to my car and headed home......
a short but fruitful half-an-hour indeed ......i said to myself.....

rgds,
sulhan.....
