At the turn of 2012
Here are some shots taken around my home here in Melbourne Australia at the turn of 2012. Shots were taken with Sony Alpha A77 that I current have on hand. This is a unit that will be in-house for some user test and reviews. Stay tuned for some actual user review of the Sony Alpha A77.
Sony A55 – A user hands-on review
Here is a short user review of the Sony A55 SLT camera that I have a chance to had a go on, recently. One of the camera launched in the last quarter of 2010. However, i finally got a chance to try it out to evaluate how the HD-Video recording performs.

I like the new generation of Sony cameras – like this Sony Alpha A55 SLT, with photos that are very “ready to use” that require less post-processing. Great white balance and high ISO performance.
Check out the review here.
Sony Alpha A55 SLT – Video Test 2
Finally got a chance to take the Sony A55 SLT out for a spin to see how well the video capture performance of this little one. The video clips were shot using the 18-55mm kit lens (except for the damselfly – which I had to use the 75-300mm f-4.5-5.6 lens). Really happy with the video performance straight out of the camera – no tweaks etc.
I’m consolidating some personal experience with the Sony A55 overall and do a short review writeup on this camera. Stay tuned.
Worklights/ Flood lights for Video fill light
Finally made the move to get a set of worklights for use in some video projects. 1000W to begin with. Lots of power but now figuring the different ways to tame this set of lights. Stay tuned.
Sony Alpha A55 SLT – Video Test
Got a chance to get hold of a Sony A55 SLT. Now in the process of evaluating the performance of the camera to see if its a good solution to consider for our roving team. Here is the first test clip put together using still photos from other cameras and video from the Sony A55 SLT.
For the Bread:
I have been trying out the No Knead-bread recipe that was first shared by Mark Bittman in one of the New York Times Videos. Surely its the easiest bread making technique that I have ever tried. Its really satisfying to see the whole process bread making churning out a great loaf of bread. At the same time, I’m compiling some bread photographs for our bread photographs library.
Stay tuned for a full user review.
South Gippsland Region’s Secret
A whole new region to explore. I personally have been heading towards the western coast for road-trips and this time we made our way eastwards to the Gippsland region. Full of nature’s secret tucked in somewhere out there. Here are some shots from the road trip….

Here are some of the must go places if you’re around the region:
- Buchan’s Caves - near Lakes Entrance /Bairnsdale
- Lakes Entrance – Marina area and around
- Tara Bulga National Park – near Yarram
- 90 Mile Beach – Yarram to Seaspray area
- Wilsons Promontary – Great geographical landform very similar to San Diego, CA. with great great beaches.

Wireless USB Link for wireless tethered shoot on Sony Alpha A900
Building a wireless USB Link for wireless tethered shoot on Sony Alpha A900
- by M Sulhan Juman

We have been looking out for a wireless data transfer solution for the Sony Alpha to enable it for use in a wireless tethered shooting situation. This setup was to compliment or maybe replace the wired setup that has been used in the Mobile Photo Studio print station solution over at Mobistudios. We have just secured a major event this October that will be a a good platform to try out a new solution – such as a wireless tethered shooting solution for use in the mobile print station setup. After drafting out the plans for the two day event, we’ve decided to go ahead and build a wireless solution for our usage.
We searched the web for wireless tethered solution for the Sony Alpha DSLR cameras and did not find any solution documented for Alpha cameras in any of the technologies – such as USB, Wifi or others. Fortunately we found a write-up by a fellow photographer by the name of Pete Tsai – who have successfully build a USB link using hardware by Cables Unlimited for his Nikon system.
